Twin Cities Orthopedics Opens Second Edina Pt Location

Twin Cities Orthopedics opened its second Edina-based Physical Therapy facility on Dec. 3 at the Southdale Medical Center. Much of the 3,500 square foot space features sport flooring to allow proper cushioning and traction when jumping, cutting and shuffling. Equipment features include an UltraSlide board for lateral agility proprioception and endurance training for both the upper and lower body. The shuttle allows for reduced body weight and exaggerated plyometric training.

The clinic also has a sports net that will allow patients to replicate the functional activities of golf and overhead throwing. Beginning Jan. 1 the clinic will have the ability to use Dartfish technology to provide instant visual feedback on movement using high speed cameras and computer software. A state of the art Sonus surround system will be installed on Dec. 15 and will help in maintaining a high energy exercise environment.

The Athletic Competition Enhancement program will also be based out of the new location. The 8 week program focuses on lower extremity rehab, helping athletes return to sporting activities.

The location will also include MedX lumbar and cervical strengthening for non Medicare patient population. The 12 week program provides a conservative, non-surgical option for patients to manage their low back and neck pain by building strength, endurance, and ROM.

  • Sals Caf Moves From Truck To Permanent Quarters In Orthopedics Clinic On West 65th Street In Edina

    Jill MONSON

More than 350 doctors and medical office staff see close to 500 patients a day at the Edina offices of Twin Cities Orthopedics , an orthopedic urgent care, same-day surgery and physical therapy facility on West 65th Street in Edina. When the buildings café closed in spring 2015, a lot of busy, hungry people were left looking for good food in a hurry. Food truck owner Michael Salvatore, known to everyone as Sal, saw an opportunity. I knew a few of the doctors here, he says, and one of the secretaries goes to my church. Salvatore had been operating a food truck called Sals Place at Edina special events for several years, and his truck soon became a familiar presence on the street outside TCO. At the end of that summer, I gave the doctors a proposal to take over the vacated café space, says Salvatore. He got the lease, and Sals Café opened on the first floor of TCO on September 8, 2015.

While waiting to speak with Salvatore in his small, cheerful and very clean café , I chatted with TCO switchboard operator Colleen Murphy, who was eating a late lunch. She reports that several times a year, and much to everyones delight, the physicians in the building buy a Sals Café lunch for all of their employees. Featured this day is lasagna, ordered by Murphy and several other diners. Murphy particularly appreciates Salvatores monthly menus, which he prints out for employees planning. Her favorite item? Any dinner with mashed potatoes, she says.

Our Physical Therapists have been providing TeleHealth visits since early March. We are confident that your Physical Therapist can offer you great value via this virtual connection. Below is an example video of what an interaction with your Therapist over TeleHealth looks like:

    How Physical Therapy Works

Physical therapy is a type of treatment that uses exercise, manual therapy and education to manage pain and heal injuries. Strengthening muscles in and around an injured area helps support the tissue and takes pressure off the injury. It also improves the function of your body, enabling you to move more comfortably and confidently so you can get back to your usual routines.

Our board-certified physical therapists will evaluate your condition and talk with you about your treatment goals. Then well develop a personalized treatment plan with exercises that target your areas of concern. Well also show you how to perform daily tasks and athletic skills safely without causing pain or reinjury.

Physical therapy can be used to treat any part of the body. We commonly recommend physical therapy for treating sprains and strains, muscle tears, tendonitis and other conditions that cause pain. We also use physical therapy to help people recover and regain strength after surgery.

Physical therapy services moved from their two previous Edina locations at the Crosstown Medical Building, just off Highway 62 at 4010 W. 65th St. and Southdale PT, 6545 France Ave. S. The orthopedic physician clinic, Orthopedic Urgent Care, surgery center and hand therapy will remain at TCO Edina Crosstown.

We were long overdue for improved space in the Edina market, Chris Bailey, PT, DPT, OCS, Director of Sports Medicine and Therapy, said. We saw the importance of changing how physical therapy was delivered. We need to continue to provide a high level of professional service and advice while connecting the dots of what comes after PT is completed.

How do we make sure our patients continue to exercise and value their health to ensure that their orthopedic issues dont return? We do it through fitness classes, wellness programs, nutrition, sports performance, injury prevention and more.
