Katie Price underwent surgery on her foot earlier this month, with the procedure said to have involved taking screws out – which had been inserted in response to her having ‘smashed’ her feet in 2020
Katie Price was spotted leaving the doctors just days ago with a bandage on her left foot, after undergoing surgery on it recently as part of her recovery from an old injury.
The reality TV star, 44, is understood to have undergone an operation earlier this month to remove metal work that had been inserted into her foot around two years ago.
She had “smashed” up her feet jumping over a wall whilst on holiday in 2020. Katie was confined to a wheelchair and unable to walk initially following the incident in Turkey.
The former glamour model had screws and metal plates fitted as part of treatment for such at the time. They are said to have been removed from her left foot this month.
Katie is now said to be “learning to walk again” following the latest procedure. She was spotted with a bandage on her foot last week whilst leaving the doctors.
She sported a white bandage on her left foot. She opted to wear a pair of open-toe sliders, which likely provided a bit more comfort than alternative footwear would have done.
It comes just days after she is believed to have undergone the procedure to remove metal work from her foot. She’s said to be awaiting more treatment on the other foot.

What Is The Surgery For Bunion Correction
The corrective surgery for bunion is known as a metatarsal osteotomy or bunionectomy. There are multiple techniques, but all involve cutting the bones and repositioning them with metal screws to straighten the big toe and reduce the bump on the side of the foot.
Traditionally, bunion surgery can be quite painful and involve a long recovery. However, some patients can benefit from newer, minimally invasive techniques that have significant advantages. Historically, these procedures have been performed through large incisions, but at HSS, I have perfected two special techniques to correct bunions through tiny incisions.
Do Bunions Grow Back After Surgery
The recurrence rate is about 20% over a patients lifetime. A mild bunion recurrence is well-tolerated by most patients. Significant bunion recurrences that cause problems and require further surgery are much less common. Recurrence may happen if the bunion isnt fully corrected at the time of surgery or if the wrong bunion procedure was used. It may also occur if patients dont follow the postoperative directions carefully. Overcorrection is also a risk, but much less common. Either recurrence or overcorrection may require a second operation .

How Often Are Bunion Surgery Screws Used In Surgical Procedures
During foot surgery, its common to use screws to hold bones together. Several bones or bone pieces are intended to be held together with screws. Similar to how you would think of putting two wooden pieces together. And the first stages of bone healing happen once the bones are squeezed together.
After surgery, the patient can walk and engage in other weight-bearing activities because of the use of screws. The foot and ankle can strengthen again after a fracture thanks to the screws. Traditionally, arthritic joints were destroyed or fused.These are not good alternatives for an active person who puts great demand on their feet. Why destroy a joint if you can save it? For many patients with severe arthritic bunions, a bunionectomy with joint replacement can be used. An MP joint replacement is similar to a hip joint replacement. The results are generally excellent for reducing joint pain and allowing increased activity.Using surgical engineering, we are able to get the big toe joint to bend again, saving many such arthritic joints.
What Happens After Bunion Surgery
Bunion surgery is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day. After surgery, you will wait in a recovery room for one to two hours until your surgeon determines you are safe to leave. You will have to ask someone to drive you home. During your recovery at home, your healthcare provider will instruct you to:
- Avoid putting weight on your big toe.
- Elevate your foot to reduce swelling.
- Keep your wound and bandages dry.
- Take pain medicines as prescribed.
During the first two weeks after surgery, you may need to ask someone to help you prepare meals or do household chores.

The Day Of The Operation
Bunion surgery is normally done as an out-patient, meaning you arrive at hospital a couple of hours before your surgery and are discharged later that day.
Surgery usually takes up to an hour and afterwards, you will be taken to the recovery room and monitored until your heart rate, blood pressure and breathing as well as the sensation and circulation in your foot are back to normal. This takes slightly longer if you have a general anaesthetic rather than an ankle block.
Your foot will be bandaged to hold the toes in the correct position with dressings in place to cover the wound and the stitches, or occasionally your foot may be in a cast. You will be given a special shoe to wear when you are walking for the first few weeks of bunion surgery recovery. These are nice and wide so there is no pressure through the foot, and often have a special wedge under the heel to help you not to put any weight through the front of your foot during the initial phase of bunion surgery recovery.

How Are Bunions Surgically Corrected
The basis for bunion surgery has classically been centered on the method with which surgeons use to realign the deviated bones. Bunionplasty® refers to the method with which the skin is handled to limit scarring for a more aesthetic result.
While hundreds of bunion surgery operations have been described, surgeons generally correct bunions using one of two methods to realign the malaligned bones they are bone cut or bone mending .
- Bone-cutting procedures involve creating a surgical break in the deviated metatarsal bone to realign only a portion of the bone. What To Expect During Osteotomy
A surgical operation to cut a bone is called an osteotomy. The bones lengthening, straightening, or shortening after being cut may occur unexpectedly during surgery or gradually after. The surgeon has two options for internal or external fixation after the osteotomy.
A few tiny incisions are made in the bones by the surgeon. The surgeon will then correct the big toe joint using screws or pins. And the most frequent treatment for bunions is this one.
Conventional Methods Are Described Below We Do Not Do The Following Procedures
Different procedures are available for bunions of varying severity.
For mild cases, non-invasive methods, like wraps, splints, and other apparatus can be worn, but these do not correct the bunion. At best, they might temporarily alleviate some of the pain.
In one surgical procedure for less severe bunions, a V shape is cut into the joint of the big toe this allows the surgeon to straighten the toe, but requires the insertion of a screw into the joint to keep the toe in place.
For more severe cases, the soft tissue must be further disturbed. Different methods of straightening the toe are employed. Plates, screws, and other hardware are often used to correct the toe and keep it in place.
In severe cases mostly involving more elderly patients, resection arthroplasty is often performed by removing the bottom of the toe joint with the big toe left immobilized entirely. This procedure affects the balance of the patient and also changes the anatomy of the foot. When one part of the complex foot system is altered, every part of the system is changed, even beyond the foot. Over time, this causes problems in other areas of the foot and may also affect the ankles, knees, and lower back.
