What Is Morton Neuroma
Morton neuroma is a buildup of benign tissue in the nerves running between the long bones of the foot. Morton neuroma occurs when two bones rub together and squeeze the nerve between them. Most often, neuromas develop between the bones leading to the third and fourth toes. Morton neuroma often causes swelling, tenderness, and pain. If the pain becomes severe, it may cause tingling, numbness, and burning in the toes. It usually occurs after standing or walking for a long period of time. Treatment for this condition may involve rest or a change in footwear that does not restrict the foot. If the problem persists, cortisone injections or surgery may be considered.
This condition is a thickening of the nerve sheath that surrounds a nerve in the ball of the foot. It most commonly develops between the third and fourth toes. It also commonly occurs between the second and third toes.
What Is An Ankle Sprain
An ankle sprain is an injury to the foot’s ligaments in the ankle. Ligaments are tough bands of elastic tissue that connect bones to each other. Ankle sprains may occur if the ankle rolls, turns, or twists beyond its normal range of motion. Ankle sprains may be caused by awkward foot placement, irregular surfaces, weak muscles, loose ligaments, or wearing shoes with spiked heels. What Causes Foot Pain On The Side Of Your Foot
Lateral foot pain can make it difficult to participate in daily activities even something as simple as walking or standing. Situations affecting the outside of the foot and ankle can cause pain due to a number of factors, such as joint or tendon inflammation, arthritis, pinched nerves or the presence of fine cracks in the bones.
If left untreated, these conditions can worsen, leading to larger problems such as an ankle sprain, cuboid syndrome, peroneal tendonitis and even a stress fracture.

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis
With every step we take, our body weight comes to rest first on the heel and then gradually over the length of the foot. As the foot begins to bear weight, it flattens. This puts pressure on the plantar fascia, which has very little stretch. As we walk, the plantar fascia pulls on its attachment at the heel.
If the foot is properly aligned, this pull causes no problems. If the foot is pronated meaning it rolls outward at the ankle the arch falls too much and there is an abnormal amount of pull on the fairly rigid plantar fascia. This causes an abnormally strong pull on the heel where the plantar fascia attaches.
Something similar happens when the foot has supination, meaning it rolls inward. These type of feet are relatively inflexible, usually have a high arch and a short or unusually tight plantar fascia.

One thing you can do for quick relief is to massage the space between the metatarsals, Dr. Sutera says. Take your thumbs and use them to massage the top of your foot and use your other fingers to put pressure at the bottom. Massage spaces in between your toes where the nerves live, she says.

You might be able to try arch supports, foot pads, or custom orthotics, which will help contour and cushion your foot while you walk, she says. Dr. Sutera also recommends wearing a variety of shoes and tossing out those with uneven or damaged soles. How Is A Hairline Fracture In The Foot Treated
The treatment for a hairline fracture depends on the severity of the injury. A small crack in the bone is often treated with a cast or splint, which are often used in combination with a brace to keep your foot in an elevated position.
Treatment for a more severe break may involve surgery to repair the fracture, followed by physical therapy. Surgery may also be necessary if you have an open wound or other complications from your injury.
If you have a hairline fracture, follow these tips:
Dont put weight on your foot until the doctor says its OK. Your doctor may want you to use crutches temporarily so that your weight isnt bearing down on your injured foot and putting pressure on it.
Dont try to walk even with crutches until after youve seen your doctor for an evaluation of your injury. If you try walking before seeing a doctor, you could cause further damage to your foot or ankle and make recovery longer than it needs to be.
A hairline fracture is usually treated with a walking boot or cast. The foot will be immobilized until the bone heals. The doctor may prescribe pain medications, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen, to help relieve discomfort while healing.
If you have a hairline fracture in your foot, you should avoid activities that could cause you to fall or increase your risk of injury, including contact sports and running. You should also avoid high heels and tight-fitting shoes until your doctor says its okay to resume normal activities.
