The Florida Orthopedic Institute will close eight offices and surgery centers in Hillsborough County and Wesley Chapel after learning Thursday that a doctor tested positive for coronavirus.
The doctor, who has mild symptoms and is self-isolating at home, worked at the institutes South Tampa and North Tampa/Temple Terrace locations, according to a notice on the institutes website. Administrators said in the note that theyre trying to identify patients who may have been exposed to the virus.
The institute has offices or surgery centers in Tampa, Valrico, Brandon, Citrus Park, Sun City Center and Wesley Chapel, according to its website. It also has a location in Palm Harbor, though the notice did not address facilities outside of Hillsborough County and Wesley Chapel.
Patients with urgent needs should contact the institute, according to the notice. Those with non-urgent appointments will be contacted for rescheduling.
Nobody was available Friday afternoon to answer follow-up questions about the notice, said a woman who answered the phone at the institute.
