During Your Child’s Exam

When your childs name is called, you and your child will be sent for an X-ray or escorted to an examination room. During check-in, our clinical team will obtain your child’s vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, weight and height.

In a private exam room, our clinical team will:

• Take a full medical history of your child, including any family history of illness.
• Review your child’s medications and allergies. Please remember to bring any prescriptions or over-the-counter medications your child is taking.
• Discuss your childs symptoms, what brings you to this visit, and possible next steps.

You will have the opportunity during this initial patient visit to discuss your childs symptoms and ask questions. There will be additional opportunities at future visits to ask follow-up questions.

Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia Opens New Inpatient Hospital In King Of Prussia

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. — Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in King of Prussia officially opened on Wednesday. The new $289 million suburban pediatric hospital is now taking care of patients and providing emergency services.

CHOP has satellite offices spread around the region. Now by popular demand from families, there’s also a new suburban hospital.

The first patients are being treated at the new Middleman Family Pavilion.

CHOP is spreading its wings, opening a second hospital in King of Prussia.

“We are very excited, this has been a long time coming,” said Cara Rakow, associate chief of nursing officer at the Middleman Family Pavilion.

In addition to the 52 private rooms, there’s an intensive care unit and the first dedicated pediatric emergency department in Montgomery County, close to where many patients live. A drive to the city is no longer necessary to get these hospital services.

“We’re helping to give families ease of access to our high quality pediatric care as well as that closeness to home,” Rakow said.

Rakow says beyond convenience, CHOP desperately needed the additional space being provided by the new facility. The four operating rooms are outfitted with a new lighting system that accommodates different kinds of procedures.

“Also at night time or when the room is vacant for a period, UV lights come on and they work around the clock to disinfect the room and really reduce the risk of infection,” Cheryl Gebeline-Myers said.

The Madlyn K. Abramson Emergency Department at CHOPs Middleman Family Pavilion in King of Prussia is staffed by physicians and nurses who are specially trained in pediatric emergency medicine. The ED is available 24 hours a day to handle pediatric emergencies, unscheduled visits and consultations that need immediate attention. We offer on-site radiology and can provide conscious sedation for uncomfortable procedures. If your childs medical condition is serious and they need to be admitted, they can easily be transferred upstairs to an inpatient unit.

From Montco: Chop Unveils Plans For Another Hospital In King Of Prussia

Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia announced plans Tuesday for a full-service, inpatient medical center in King of Prussia its first outside the city in its 160-year history.

The 52-bed, 250,000-square-foot hospital will be built beside CHOPs specialty care and outpatient surgery center on Goddard Boulevard and is expected to open in 2021.

Its really just around the corner, Madeline Bell, CHOP president and CEO, said at the press conference held to announce the project. We really believe care is best closest to home.

Upper Merion Supervisor Greg Waks Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh orthopedic surgeon Jack Flynn and Emma Fair, 13, a CHOP patient, and her mother, Rachel, also spoke at the event.

Arkoosh, herself a physician, said she served her residency at CHOP, where she learned to administer anesthesia to children.

We are extremely pleased that the first foray to build a new hospital separate from the mother ship will be right here in Montgomery County, she said. CHOP is near and dear to my heart, and I know personally the high level of care that is given to patients there.

Construction will also generate employment, Arkoosh said, helping to maintain Upper Merions status as the third largest employment hub in southeastern Pennsylvania, after Center City and University City, Philadelphia.

Nothing stops me, she told the gathering. My experience at CHOP inspired me to want to be a nurse.

Scheduling Diagnostic And Testing Services

Your child’s initial visit may result in additional testing to establish or confirm your child’s diagnosis. For this reason, we ask you to bring your calendar so we can schedule further testing for your child if needed.

Chop Is Opening A $289 Million Facility In King Of Prussia As Other Hospitals Struggle

CHOP’s new hospital in King of Prussia bucks a trend of hospital consolidation that analysts expect will accelerate because of the pandemic.

While general hospitals are financially stretched thin by the COVID-19 pandemic, Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia is opening a new $289 million, 52-bed hospital less than 20 miles northwest of its urban flagship, in the heart of King of Prussias shopping district.

The facility, which has a pediatric emergency department and 16-bed intensive care unit, is intended to ease pressure on CHOPs crowded West Philadelphia hospital and attract new patient families from farther west, who may not have been able or willing to travel into Philadelphia for care. Opening Wednesday, it shares a campus with one of CHOPs busiest specialty care centers, on South Goddard Road.

We want this to be a front door to CHOP, said Allison Ballantine, associate chief medical officer at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia in King of Prussia. We want to be here for folks who have had to drive to the city and also new patients.

The opening of the new hospital, which was financed through a combination of bonds, reserves and fund-raising, bucks a decade-long trend of consolidation in the hospital sector, as more care transitions from hospitals to outpatient clinics and ambulatory care centers.

Analysts expect the pandemic will accelerate that trend.

The 250,000-square-foot Middleman Family Pavilion at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, King of Prussia, is located on CHOPs King of Prussia campus and is connected to CHOPs existing specialty and urgent care centers. The new facility offers a range of pediatric specialty services, including orthopedics, plastic surgery, and ear, nose, and throat, as well as comprehensive radiology services.

The project includes 52 private inpatient rooms, including a 36-bed medical/surgical unit and a 16-bed pediatric intensive care unit , an operating room suite with up to four operating rooms and specializing in elective services requiring overnight stays.

A Note About Referrals
